Straddle Leg Problem When Raising Quail.
What is straddle leg in Quail? It is a condition where the quail’s legs can be turned or badly bowed. Their feet will be turned in such a way that they can’t walk right or at all. This condition is irreversible, so if any of your quail have this condition the best thing is to cull it.
In most cases straddle leg can be prevented. Usually the main cause of this condition when raising quail is the baby chicks coming out of the shell onto a wet slippery surface. Their tiny weak little legs cannot take the stress of slipping and sliding around. So you as a quail breeder have to be knowledgeable and aware enough to completely avoid the chicks hatching under the wrong conditions.
The same holds true for straddle leg as for most other problems that arise when raising quail. Using proper management skills for prevention. Put a cloth down or shredded paper, something that will absorb the slippery liquid. It is that simple.
