What kind of humidity are you running in your hatcher incubator? Are you running 80% steady with no downward flucuating. This is an absolute must. Did you break the one open between the incubator and placing in the hatcher or after being in the hatcher. Sometimes it can take longer than 3 days for the chicks to hatch. You say everythings seems normal with the quail chicks growth. Have you candled the eggs while in the hatcher and actually seen movement or are they dead before reaching the hatcher. Do you disinfect your incubators between each batch of eggs. One other thing, just because they show normal growth doesn't make them good eggs. If you are doing the things I mentioned above, you may want to buy your eggs from someone else to try.

Me and my dad have been raising quail for about a year now. Last year we bought eggs off the internet and incubated them, now they are laying eggs and we can't seem to get them to hatch. We have a still air incubator and the humidity and temperature are both right for both incubators( we have a seperate incubator to put them in 3 days before hatching). We candled the eggs and discarded the bad ones 7 days into incubation. The eggs seem to be doing good and growing normally in the eggs but don't hatch. ( we opened one to check and see if they are growing right and the chick looked normal and the inside of the egg was moist. What could we be doing wrong?

This would depend on if you wanted to get into actually raising the valley quail or not. If you are just wanting to have a certain amount of quail to release. It would be better to buy young adult, flight conditioned valley quail. I you actually wanted to get into raising these quail. You would need an incubator, brooder, grow out pens and a flight conditioning pen. This would be a little expensive and time consuming for a one time venture of raising quail.

So, I would like to raise some California quail to release in my area. We live in a wooded area with a field nearby and a creek. I simply think Califonia Quail are adorable and would like to see them running around our place from time to time. What would one need to do to have this successful? We live in Western Oregon with a fairly mild climate.

Hey: thanks for using time of creating up this knowledge. I constantly attempt to further my comprehension of important things. Whether or not I consent or disagree, I love information and facts. I do not forget the previous days once the only supply of material was the library or even the newspaper. They both equally seem to be so archaic. : )

Well written article. All too many times good intending people adopt and raise wild animals to adulthood only to release them back into the wild to face conditions that they have not been prepared for, thereby insuring certain death to the animal. It would have been better off left alone to find its place in the food chain.
